Update as of 3:50 pm:

Please be advised that the Queen of Capilano is currently holding in dock at Horseshoe Bay until further notice.

A water taxi service will be provided for all foot passengers travelling between Horseshoe Bay and Snug Cove/Bowen Island. Passengers are required to purchase their ticket from the foot passenger ticket agent at Horseshoe Bay terminal and then proceed to the government dock to board the water taxi.

For traffic updates or more information please call us toll free at 1-888-BCFERRY (223-3779), check our website at www.bcferries.com or go to mobile.bcferries.com on your mobile device.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Good luck getting through to the 1-888-BCFERRY (223-3779) number! Apparently they are "experiencing high volume".... We've been trying.

cheers,
Susan

I just got through and it is an electrical problem and have no idea when they will start up again. The ferry lineup is up past the school.

I saw the Chinese Food wagon and he cannot get in to pick up the food. Bummer.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when things like this used to happen in the past, did not BC Ferries hire our water taxi and the disgruntled passengers were at least given a 'free' ride back to Bowen?

Yes, and they are now too.

But the water taxi isn't free.
You are supposed to buy a foot passenger ticket, and then walk over to the Govt. dock at HSBay.
Mind you, the one BCF person on the Govt. dock gave up collecting the tickets when I boarded the Apodaca at about 5:00pm.
At that time there was quite a line-up for the water-taxis.
The Apodaca & the Kinbasket-Queen are shuttling back and forth, doing their best at getting foot-paasengers home.
Parking in HSBay and in Snug Cove is difficult to find.

Let's hope that the Queen of Capilano is fixed soon.

BTW, BCFerries is being less than forthcoming about what is happening.
Their Service Notice doesn't even admit that there has been a breakdown.
All they say is that: "the Queen of Capilano is currently holding in dock at Horseshoe Bay until further notice".
What the heck is that supposed to mean?

It means they're short staffed or indifferent regarding keeping their web site up to date. The staff at Horseshoe Bay terminal were exasperated that the site has not been kept up to date or forthcoming.

cheers,
Susan

I think it would be nice if they sent some Ferry person over to tell people sitting in their cars on the Bowen side what was happening. I talked to one person and they were up for the day and were lucky enough to get the last room at the Steamship for the night. They however did not know that the sailings were done until I told them.

Hmmm. This article tells us all we need to know How will ferry service be affected if there is a National park?

Do any of my friends and fellow islanders with finely tuned crystal balls or highly honed powers of perception have any idea if the ferry will be running in the morning? I can't get a word out of BC ferries and I have tried all avenues. We, of all mornings, need to be on the 5:30 ferry.

Yikes!

Chris Buchanan from the municipality office was personally speaking to every car in the line up this afternoon! Hats off to Chris!

I was one of those who came across on the water taxi when the ferry was finally decreed to be grounded; there was a cute but flustered bc ferries employee attempting to create some order on the dock, all the while muttering that she really should go across and help out on the Bowen side.
When I got to Bowen and was making my way up the hill, I saw that indeed she should have; numerous cars were waiting for Godot, - apparently somehow they had been left in the dark, clueless to what was happening.
I know Chris Buchanan was making the rounds at some point, but did not make it all the way, or new cars kept arriving.. at any rate, there is a dire lack of cohesive information transfer on our end.

And during times like these there are people needing to make overseas flights, meet deadlines, show up for much anticipated doctors appointments, begin well deserved vacations....communication does go a long way...but I am very grateful that we seem to be back on the road......

I was down in the Cove at around 6pm and I think that the same young woman BC Ferries worker was going up and down the row of cars (and the people sitting outside the restaurants!) and letting them know that the ferry was out of commission for, at that point, an unknown amount of time.

She was letting them know all of their options in a friendly way, even though you could tell that she was a bit fed up that even she was getting no more detail than that! She estimated 3 ferry runs to clear the backlog.....

When this sort of thing happens, will the Queen o' Cap continue its run to the Fair Isle until all passengers and autos are home or will they just stop at 9;30 ish at the HSB?

I did see the Queen running both around 9PM and again just after 10.... so hope they got everyone who was IN the lineup or compound over to Bowen last night. The 5:30 ferry was just heading into Horseshoe Bay as I thyme this at 5:45. All's good on the rock!
