The Cap left HSBay at 8:58pm and is steaming towards Snug Cove.

Excellent!

Wonderful to see that the BC Ferries web site is keeping up to date with events within their own organisation. Still says the ferry is parked in the berth.

Maybe no one has noticed it has gone....

As a bunch of us waited for the water taxi with a lovely staff member who tried her best to answer questions to folks wandering around with luggage and worrying about what to do with their cars, etc., we all suddenly saw the ferry pulling out and no word was given to the staff person. There's something amusing but strange that BC Ferries management keeps their staff completely in the dark about what is happening. Here was this lovely woman trying her best to come up with answers to the endless questions coming her way and there the ferry leaves and not a word is said to her as she waits with the people. I am reminded of Faulty Towers.... (Thankfully, Brian Biddlecomb and crew always come to the rescue with the water taxi...).

That BCF staff-lady told me that when she started her shift at 3:30pm, she was immediately sent over to the Govt. dock at HSBay, without any explanation of why the Capilano wasn't running, nor really what she was supposed to do.

I hope that someone has now told her that she can go home...

Maybe we should all pitch in and buy their senior managers, web masters and PR staff some "Communications 101" courses.

They make the top 3 worst corporate communicators consistently every year.

Good night all,
Susan

Someone absolutely has to make this into a play. It has all the ingredients of a great farce, and might inspire us, as we start to think about transitioning to an economy without cheap energy, growth, or a stable environment, what life might look like on the other side.

I was that long, heated queue for the water taxi, marveling at the hapless BC Ferries employee standing there so ill-equipped--no walkie-talkie, no cell phone, information, no clue, being paid to marshall we equally hapless islanders. Some things never change. :-o

Oh, and it was called "Fawlty Towers," as I recall.

I just saw the ferry heading into Snug Cove at 5:20AM..... so all's back to normal (whatever that may be) for the long weekend!

"Oh, and it was called "Fawlty Towers," as I recall". Unless the paperboy rearranged the letters on the sign (10 of the 12 episodes, I think)

The Paperboy,
though rarely seen, is significant as he is revealed to be the prankster who rearranges the letters on the "Fawlty Towers" sign to read various (sometimes crude) phrases[12]. This may have been because of Basil's sharp attitude towards him when he was late with a delivery. The shot of the sign (with the hotel exterior in the background) appears at the beginning of every episode but one, "The Germans", when a shot of a hospital is used, as this is the only episode which doesn't begin at the hotel. During the first series, the sign slowly deteriorated throughout the season until almost no letters were left in episode four. Episode five brings the first semi-anagram: "Warty Towels". In the second series, the first episode sign spells 'Fawlty Tower' letter "L" being noticeably askew, and changes in each subsequent episode, from the correct spelling to various semi-anagrams (only "Flowery Twats" from the 11th episode, "The Anniversary", is a proper anagram using all original letters.) The changes progress as follows:

Episode 7: "Fawlty Tower" (the letter "L" is askew)
Episode 8: "Watery Fowls"
Episode 9: "Flay Otters"
Episode 10: "Fatty Owls"
Episode 11: "Flowery Twats"
Episode 12: "Farty Towels"

Such memories you're bringing back here Sue... I just loved Fawlty Towers.... and last night's episode in Horseshoe Bay reminded me so much of some of those other hilarious episodes... although, truly, I felt bad for the BC Ferries' staff being left out in the cold and not told a word like the rest of us... (yes, someone should put this into a play on Bowen...!)

Sue. how in the world did you ever pick up on the paperboy? We have recorded and viewed each wonderfully funny episode many times and never tire of them. The only bit funnier was the "Dead Parrot" on Monty Python.
