Greenpeace Event at Jericho Beach June 13

We have received information on a Greenpeace event June 13 at Jericho Beach. The information they sent us is below in case any of you are interested in organizing a group or attending solo.

On June 13th Greenpeace Canada will host an incredible family friendly beach party to celebrate the beautiful coast and underline all that could be lost should more tanker and pipeline traffic precipitate another Exxon Valdez tragedy on the coast, and we need your support!!

Toast the Coast (before the coast is toast) will include a 9-foot floating salmon lantern based on the design of Roy Henry Vickers, a rap battle roasting Harper, live painting, live music, food trucks, and hands-on art installations.

Like the brave Seattle and Salish Sea’s kayaktivists, we invite you to bring your boats, boards and paddles to Toast the Coast and fill up the bay or even just paddle by! We believe your presence will make a huge impact and having your organization behind this cause will help us grow the #PeopleVsOil movement.

As you may know, Shell is planning to drill in the Arctic this summer for oil that we need to keep in the ground if we have any hope of stabilizing the climate. But if Shell does go ahead, then oil spills are inevitable. In addition to putting the entire global climate at risk, Shell would eventually be sending super-tankers full of Arctic oil down the coast — increasing traffic 10-fold — and last month’s oil spill in English Bay is just a small insight into what that traffic could bring.

So we are reaching out to you at Sea Kayak Association of BC because we recognize that you have a special connection to these waterways.

Let’s Toast the Coast and send a message to our government that people — not oil — belong on these beaches, and that we will not stand for Arctic drilling OR super-tankers full of oil traveling along the coastline.

By reaching out and sharing this event with Sea Kayak Association of BC members, fellow kayakers, boaters, paddlers, sailors, yacht owners, friends and family we can make this a huge success! Please tweet and/or share this event on your social media accounts.

The event will take place on June 13th, from 4-10 pm at Jericho Beach. We look forward to seeing you there and thank you in advance!!

For more information on this incredible family-friendly, solar powered event please see our Facebook Page: Toast the Coast or contact Jessica Wilson, Head of the Arctic Campaign, at 778-874-5417 or jessica.wilson@greenpeace.org

Can I invite Ezra Levant, or do we have to just roast him in effigy?
